Thriving Kids and NDIS
Dr Mona Nikidehaghani can provide expert commentary on the Australian Government's proposed "Thriving Kids" program. is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business. Her research examines accounting information, public accountability and social justice, including the impacts of accounting on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Scams and Cybersecurity
Distinguished Professor Willy Susilo can discuss Scams Awareness Week (25-29 August). is the Director of the Institute of Cybersecurity and Cryptology at UOW. He is an expert in computer security and cryptography, and he's at the forefront of cloud computing security research.
National Skills Week
Dr Oliver Guidetti can discuss this year’s National Skills Week (25-31 August). The week is dedicated to raising the status of skills and vocational learning. ’s research spans psychology, cybersecurity, and human-computer interaction. Dr Guidetti is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology. He connects the importance of vocational skills with broader societal needs, from cybersecurity resilience to human wellbeing. He can also discuss Scams Awareness Week.
World Lake Day (27 August)
Associate Professor Tim Cohen can discuss World Lake Day. from UOW's Environmental Futures Research Group, is currently monitoring Australia's largest lake, Kati Thanda Lake Eyre, as it fills from one of the largest inland floods in 50 years. He has researched lakes across Australia and in eastern Indonesia and works on both permanent and ephemeral lakes including the long-term history of lakes that document climate change. He has recently launched a groundbreaking project that reveals the in the Hawkesbury-Nepean catchment.
High farmland values threaten farmer viability
Associate Professor Amir Arjomandi can talk about a new study which examined the dynamic relationship between farmland prices and the profitability of Australia’s farming sector. In an article co-authored for he writes:
We found when farm profits rise, farmland prices tend to increase as well, with a lag of two to five years. But there’s a catch: higher land values push up production costs, which can erode profits over time.
